WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
At Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) we know how disruptive and stressful it is to be without power, especially after the devastating storms that hit our community Friday. Many of our employees live and work here too, and we understand how important electricity is to rebuilding and getting back to normal.
That means restoring power as quickly and safely as possible following Friday’s storms.
As soon as conditions were safe, our team immediately got to work. Crews worked overnight and restored more than 2,600 customers who lost power during the original storm.
A team of about 500 restoration experts, including lineworkers, tree trimming experts, damage assessors, and additional business partners and support staff will continue to work throughout the day to clear debris and replace broken poles and downed wires.
Under normal conditions, when an outage occurs, I&M works to provide estimated restoration times with customers as quickly as possible so they can plan for when their power will come back on.
We know customers rely on accurate information. With additional storms and forecasted high wind gusts on the way, we can’t yet provide a reliable restoration time, as the weather will likely delay our crews’ safe restoration work.
The safety of our crews and customers is our top priority, and we will work diligently to restore power as weather permits. We have adequate resources to complete the work quickly, weather permitting.
Due to the extensive damage, crews must clear trees and debris from lines before making repairs. Roads are hard to navigate as well. Please give our workers space and don’t approach them for your safety and theirs.
CAN YOU RECEIVE POWER?
Now’s the time to check whether your home can safely receive power. If your service entrance (the part you own) is damaged, I&M can’t reconnect power until a licensed electrician makes repairs. You can learn more about homeowner and I&M responsibilities here.
SAFETY TIPS
If you’re helping with cleanup, stay away from any downed wires and anything they’re touching. The wire could be touching a fence or hidden due to debris. Please report any hazards to I&M at 1-800-311-4634 or your local police.
Look Up. If you’re outside, please look up and be aware of your surroundings as the ground is saturated from the rain and trees and limbs could fall at any moment.
Some traffic lights are out. If a stoplight isn’t working, treat it as a stop sign. Take it slow on the road.
When using a generator, connect all appliances directly to the generator. Don’t connect the generator's electrical output to any home or building electrical circuits. Don’t use gas-powered generators in enclosed or partially enclosed spaces, like inside a garage or a home.
